Travel

The Flagstaff Youth Hockey Association (FYHA) is a volunteer-driven, nonprofit organization dedicated to the development, advancement, and enjoyment of youth hockey in the Flagstaff, Arizona area.

Our Travel program is as comprehensive as the ages and abilities of the players allow us to be.

We participate in the AZYHL Travel leagues which entails traveling to the Phoenix area on weekends for league games. Not every weekend, but you should expect a couple of weekends a month.

Our Travel teams also participate in five tournaments, two that are mandated by AAHA (Arizona Amateur Hockey Association), two of which are up to the each individual team and one which the Association hopes all of the Association Travel teams will attend.

The entrance fees for these tournaments are included in the registration fee. However travel to these tournaments is not included nor is the travel to the Phoenix area for league games included.

The 8U travel teams participate in a monthly Jamborees in the Phoenix area in lieu of “league games”. One of those Jamborees is hosted in Flagstaff.

The 8U Travel teams are also restricted, without additional permission, from AAHA, from attending more than one out-of-state tournament.

  • Obviously there are instances when a player can not travel; illness; injury; school, but the expectation is that a commitment to play Travel also includes the commitment to participate in “all” of the teams endeavors.
  • AAHA does have a minimum number of league games participation policy for a player to be eligible of the State Championships.
  • AAHA also has a minimum number of player requirement for the forming of a Travel team so it is possible that if a team were to participate repeatedly in league games with a roster less than the minimum required that that Team could be removed from the league.
